Diversity

Sirote & Permutt's commitment to diversity in the workplace is evidenced by the fact that of our one hundred four shareholders and associates, fully twenty-eight percent are women and minorities. The firm unquestionably leads the legal community in the State of Alabama with respect to diversity of all types, and positions us to serve our clients with innovation and foresight unmatched in the industry.

The promotion of religious and racial tolerance has been an important initiative of our firm. Ours was the first major Birmingham corporate firm to hire African American lawyers. One senior member of the firm was involved in some of the most significant controversies in the civil rights struggle and was pictured on the cover of Time magazine in recognition of his conspicuous contributions in advancing racial reconciliation.

The firm's female attorneys hold prominent and visible leadership roles - the managing partner in our Mobile office and the chairs of three of our practice areas are women. These talented women hold various professional and civic leadership roles and have been recognized locally and statewide for their contributions to their communities. Lenora Pate, a recent candidate for Governor, was recognized by the Girl Scout Council as one of their Women of Distinction; Kathy Barr holds a position on the Board of Directors of Camp ASCCA (Alabama's Special Camp for Children and Adults), an Easter Seals Organization.
