Sirote Shareholder Barr To Speak At ABA Spring Symposia In DC

Katherine Barr, a shareholder at the law firm of Sirote & Permutt will be a featured speaker at the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate (RPTE) Law’s 20th Annual Spring Symposia, to be held April 30 – May 1 in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Barr will present “Top Ten Tips Every Estate Planner Needs to Know About Special Needs Trusts.” Topics of discussion will include: differences between self-settled and third party special needs trusts, considerations in preparing estate plans for clients with a child who has a disability, and administration of estates and trusts to prevent beneficiaries from losing disability or Medicaid benefits.
At Sirote, as a member of the firm’s estate planning department, Ms. Barr devotes much of her practice to special needs planning. She routinely helps families create special needs estate plans that will benefit a loved one with a disability.
Ms. Barr was selected as a Supervisory Council Member of the ABA RPTE section. Her leadership responsibilities include overseeing the ABA’s committees on Long-Term Care, Medicaid and Special Needs Trusts, Surrogate Decision Making and Bioethics. Barr is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and the American Bar Foundation, a member of Special Needs Alliance and serves on the Advisory Board of the Alabama Family Trust.
She earned her BS at Auburn University, an MBA at Samford University and her JD cum laude from the Cumberland School of Law.
