Sirote Supports
Throughout the firm's history, the attorneys of Sirote & Permutt have been committed to being a preferred provider of legal services in this state by maintaining a tradition of innovation, excellence, and responsiveness in their practice of law. The firm has always believed that its success is intertwined with the success and prosperity of the communities in which its lawyers live and practice law. Our attorneys have held judicial appointments, elected offices, and positions of leadership in all areas of charitable and civic organizations. Shareholders Lenora Pate and Scott Sims were selected by Governor-elect Bob Riley in December, 2002, to serve on his transition team, charged with the responsibility of recommending qualified candidates for cabinet positions in state government. Ms. Pate and shareholder J. Mason Davis, Jr. served on the Alabama Citizen's Constitutional Commission, making recommendations to the Governor for the proposed changes in the Alabama Constitution. One of the firm's founders, Edward F. Friend, Jr., was posthumously inducted into the Alabama Business Hall of Fame in 2001. Sirote attorneys have included the first Republican Lieutenant Governor of the State of Alabama elected since Reconstruction, the immediate past-Chairman of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, the President of the National Association of Counties, and others holding local, state and regional offices and positions too numerous to mention.
Three Sirote attorneys have held leadership roles in the annual United Way campaigns, one chairing the Board of Directors for the Birmingham Chapter in 2002. Sirote & Permutt attorneys have been recognized for more than twenty years for their generous financial support of United Way and have been numbered among the recipients of the United Way Chairman's Award.
One of the most prestigious civic awards presented annually is the Brotherhood Award of the National Conference for Community and Justice (formerly known as the National Conference of Christians and Jews). More than 700 people attend annual festivities in which this award is presented to only a few individuals who have distinguished themselves in civic service in promoting racial and religious tolerance. No organization has had as many individuals receive this award as Sirote & Permutt. Eight Sirote attorneys have been selected over the years to receive this award.
Sirote & Permutt enjoys being a proud sponsor of the Bruno's Memorial Classic Senior PGA Tournament, held annually at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham. Over its twelve year history, the tournament has donated more than $7 million to local and state charities.
Over the past five years, Sirote attorneys and staff participated in a holiday charity project which they titled "A Gift of Good Will". Working with Fox6 WBRC in Birmingham and with local DHR offices, the firm has donated toys and gifts to fill the wish lists of hundreds of foster children in Birmingham, Huntsville and Mobile. From 2002 to 2006, the firm has raised more than $100,000 in cash, toys and other gifts for these deserving youngsters. Work has already begun to make the project even more beneficial for the children and more rewarding for Sirote employees in 2007.
In the Fall of 2000, Sirote was particularly proud of our firm-wide effort to construct a Habitat for Humanity home for a deserving family. Over a brief span of seven weeks, attorneys, staff, families and clients spent each weekend building a miracle while building relationships with each other and the community. We were also pleased that we were able to celebrate this monumental event by dedicating the house on the 90th birthday of our founder, Jimmy Permutt.
Our firm as a whole, attorneys and support staff alike, are recognized in Huntsville, Birmingham, Mobile and other areas of the state, for their contributions to civic, charitable and fund-raising endeavors. Among the organizations benefiting from these generous efforts are Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, American Heart Association, YWCA, Girl Scouts, United Cerebral Palsy, Alabama Law Foundation, Inc., American Lung Association, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, National Conference for Community and Justice, Children’s Hospital, United Negro College Fund, Leadership Alabama, Alabama Wildlife Federation, the University of Alabama Law School, Birmingham Humane Society and Junior Achievement. In addition, Sirote female attorneys and staff participate in the YWCA's Purse & Passion luncheon and the Mother's Day Flower Sale, raising thousands of dollars for the YWCA.
