Marcus Maples Receives Gubernatorial Appointment to University of North Alabama Board of Trustees
Gov. of Alabama Robert Bentley appointed Marcus M. Maples, shareholder at Sirote & Permutt, P.C., to serve on the University of North Alabama Board of Trustees. Maples’ term as a trustee became effective June 27, 2014, subject to confirmation by the Alabama Senate. Maples will represent the state at-large in the position previously held by Richard Cater.
Maples previously served as an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees during his tenure as Student Government Association President at UNA in 2001-02. Maples has remained an active alumnus since graduating in 2002. He currently serves as Board Member of the UNA Alumni Association and Vice President of the Greater Birmingham Chapter of the UNA Alumni Club.

Maples is an attorney who represents clients in general business and commercial litigation matters. He works with life, health, disability and long-term care insurance companies in bad faith and ERISA related issues, and also represents shareholders, officers and directors in shareholder derivative claims. Maples serves on the Executive Committee of the Young Lawyers Section for the Alabama State Bar Association and is an active member of DRI. He serves on the Board of Trustees for Farrah Law Society. Maples earned his J.D. from The University of Alabama School of Law and his B.A. from the University of North Alabama.
