Sirote & Permutt Launches New Privacy & Data Security Group
Sirote & Permutt announced the formation of a new practice group dedicated to serving clients on privacy and data security matters. Named co-chairs of the new Privacy & Data Security Group are Joe Ritch of Sirote’s Huntsville office and Todd Carlisle, who is based in the firm’s Birmingham headquarters.
“Businesses are facing rapidly changing legal and regulatory issues that affect their ability to protect confidential business and customer information,” says Sirote & Permutt CEO John Cooper. “We are fortunate that Joe and Todd have stepped up to lead this important new group for the firm. They fully understand the importance of these issues to our clients.”
“Businesses, nonprofits and government agencies of all sizes are trying to sort through the maze of international, national, state and local laws and regulations governing privacy and data security,” explains co-chair Ritch. “These increasingly complex – and often overlapping – standards and requirements create additional compliance challenges for many of our clients. Our group understands these issues and has the knowledge and experience to deliver practical solutions to them, helping them comply and at the same time manage their risks.”
“Our team also assists clients with the development and implementation of privacy and data security policies and procedures,” says co-chair Carlisle. “And, we assist them in responding to security breaches, regulatory inquiries and investigations and internal and third-party compliance audits. And, when needed, we protect the interests of our clients in litigation. Simply stated, we understand the risks, we have a team that is experienced in addressing the risks and we look forward to helping clients assess and manage risks and respond to data breaches and other security incidents.”
The new group includes attorneys from the firm’s Intellectual Property, Corporate & Securities, Technology and Litigation groups, in order to efficiently and effectively provide clients with the counsel they need to succeed in a technology-driven business and regulatory environment.
