Katherine Barr Elected To Special Needs Alliance Board
Sirote & Permutt is pleased to announce that shareholder Katherine N. Barr has been elected to serve a three-year term on the Board of Directors for the Special Needs Alliance. The SNA is a national, nonprofit collective of America's leading special needs-planning attorneys. Participation is invitation only.
Barr is an estate planning attorney who handles all aspects of estate planning and administration. She is a member of Sirote’s Estate, Wills & Trusts department. Barr’s legal practice includes assisting clients in providing for a child or family member with special needs so as to obtain and preserve government benefits eligibility.
Barr also serves on the board of Triumph Services, a nonprofit organization that provides services to individuals with special needs to help them live as independently as possible. She is very active on the board of VSA Alabama, a nonprofit affiliated with the J.F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, which sponsors creative opportunities for individuals with disabilities. In addition, Barr is on the advisory boards of Camp ASCCA, a nationally recognized year-round camp for children and adults with disabilities. It is sponsored by Easter Seals and the Alabama Family Trust, which is a pooled trust for persons with special needs.
A Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, Barr has been selected as an Alabama Super Lawyer for the past five years and has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America since 2008. She is past Chair of the American Bar Association's Committee on Long-Term Care, Medicaid and Special Needs Trusts, and presently serves on the Governing Council of the ABA's Section of Real Property, Trust & Estates Law. Katherine received her J.D. cum laude from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham.
