Sirote Tax Attorneys Publish Land Easement Article
Sirote & Permutt attorneys Ronald A. Levitt and David M. Wooldridge, Gregory P. Rhodes & Nathan N. Vinson published an article in Taxation of Exempts entitled “Valuing Conservation Easements, Tax Court Analysis of Land Conservation Easement Values—Developments Since Kiva Dunes”. Taxation of Exempts provides tax analysis and guidance to members of the exempt organization community. The journal is recognized for offering practical understanding and guidance on tax-related developments.
The four authors are members of Sirote’s Conservation Easement group, which represents taxpayers who have been granted conservation easements in disputes with the Internal Revenue Service. The LLM licensed attorneys represent clients including representation at all levels of the review and appeals process, and, if necessary, in Tax Court.
Mr. Levitt’s practice focuses on business and tax planning issues, particularly for closely held and family owned businesses. Specifically, he counsels clients in business planning, succession planning, entity formation, representation of S Corporations, Limited Liability Companies and other flow-through entities, mergers and acquisitions, purchases and sales of businesses, and healthcare law (representing physician practices). Additionally, Mr. Levitt handles federal and state controversy matters, estate planning and charitable deduction planning, including planning and defending conservation easements. He is a nationally recognized expert on such topics, speaking at numerous conferences and seminars annually.
Mr. Wooldridge's practice is focused on tax litigation and tax controversy cases, involving both the IRS and Department of Revenue. Most recently, he has had a particular emphasis on defending conservation easements including the landmark Kiva Dunes case in US Tax Court. During his 31 years with Sirote, Mr. Wooldridge’s practice has included tax planning, state & local tax issues, family succession and business planning, shareholder oppression, and director and fiduciary liability issues. He was Sirote’s Managing Partner from 1992 to 1999.
In his practice at Sirote, Mr. Rhodes is involved in tax controversy and litigation work, performs tax planning and corporate planning for individuals and closely held businesses, including income taxes, estate and gift taxes, state local taxes and business transactions.
