Katherine Barr Appointed to Supervisory Position for the American Bar Association's Real Property, Trust & Estate Section
Katherine Barr has just been nominated and appointed to a second three-year term as a Supervisory Council Member of the American Bar Association’s Real Property, Trust & Estate Section. Ms. Barr was selected as one of twelve Trust and Estate lawyers to serve in this leadership position for the American Bar Association.
Ms. Barr has been recognized for her leadership positions within the American Bar Association including Section Chair for Long Term Care, Medicaid and Special Needs Trusts Committee and Group Chair for Elder Law and Disability Group. She also provides counsel on the Publications and Continuing Legal Education Committee.
Ms. Barr is a member of the Sirote Estate, Wills & Trusts department handling all aspects of estate planning and administration. One primary focus of her practice includes special needs planning. She assists clients in providing for a child or family member with special needs in a way that does not jeopardize government benefits. Ms. Barr is a member of the Special Needs Alliance, the Birmingham Estate Planning Council, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. She is a frequent speaker at national, state and local professional education seminars presenting topics related to special needs trusts, planning for the disabled, estate and planning and estate administration.
Ms. Barr serves on the Board of Directors for Camp ASCCA, an Easter Seals Organization. She is also serving on the Advisory Board for Alabama Family Trust. She previously served on the Board for Parent Advocates of Down Syndrome Group.
