Sirote's Robin Beardsley and Marcus Maples Assume DRI Leadership Positions
BIRMINGHAM, ALA — Sept.25, 2009 — Two Sirote attorneys will chair subcommittees for the 2009-10 Defense Research Institute Young Lawyers Committee. As members of the YL Steering Committee, shareholder Robin L. Beardsley will chair the Civility & Professionalism Subcommittee and fellow attorney Marcus M. Maples will serve as Vice Chair of the Diversity Subcommittee.
The Young Lawyers Committee is unique to DRI because its membership is comprised of lawyers practicing within all substantive areas of the defense bar. The committee’s mission remains the same each year — to provide its members the best professional development, quality CLE programs and networking opportunities of any legal organization.
Ms. Beardsley and Mr. Maples will be speaking at DRI’s 14th Annual Meeting, which will be held in Chicago from Oct. 7-11, 2009. Ms. Beardsley will speak at the DRI Young Lawyers Session on Ethical Obligations of Litigating Against a Pro Se Party. Mr. Maples was selected by the DRI Life, Health, Disability & ERISA Committee to present his paper titled Extra-Record Discovery: An ERISA Litigator's Guide to the Scope of Conflict Discovery Post-Glenn.
At Sirote, Ms. Beardsley represents businesses in mortgage banking and defense litigation. She defends mortgagees and servicers in consumer fraud, as well as predatory and statutory violation claims in state, federal and bankruptcy courts. She earned her JD from Cumberland School of Law and her BS from the University of Alabama.
Mr. Maples’ practice consists of general business and commercial litigation matters. Specifically, he represents life, health, disability and long-term care insurance companies in bad faith and ERISA related issues, in addition to representing a variety of lenders in mortgage banking related matters. He earned his JD from the University of Alabama School of Law and his BA from the University of North Alabama.
