Joe Ritch Named One of the Most Influential People in Huntsville Area
Sirote attorney Joe Ritch recently landed on ‘Influential People 2014,’ a short list created by the al.com reporting staff to recognize the Huntsville area’s most influential leaders. Those chosen for this list are non-elected individuals who have shaped the community politically, socially and economically.
Ritch’s newest leadership role as Chairman of the Board of the TVA puts him squarely at the center of economic development initiatives for the state and the region. He has been most influential as one of the Chairman of the Tennessee Valley Base Realignment and Closure Committee (TVBRAC), where Ritch led a team that successfully marketed Redstone Arsenal as a destination for thousands of jobs that were relocated due to the closing of excess military facilities by reason of the BRAC process. As part of the process, Ritch successfully lobbied the Alabama legislature to issue $175 million in bonds to support new K-12 schools to accommodate the growth caused by the BRAC jobs that moved to the Huntsville area because of the 2005 BRAC relocations.
Ritch is also credited with founding the hockey program at University of Alabama Huntsville (UAH), and UAH plans to honor him this month with an honorary doctorate for his many contributions to the university through the years.
