TVA and Sirote’s Joe Ritch Help Secure $600M Google Data Center in Alabama
Chairman of the Tennessee Valley Authority and Sirote & Permutt attorney Joe Ritch recently helped secure the plans for Google to build a $600 million data center in Stevenson, Ala.
Construction will begin in 2016, and the center will be built on the grounds of the Widows Creek coal power plant, allowing Google to repurpose the plants’ electric transmission lines and use renewable energy to power the center. Google has tapped the potential of old industrial building sites in the past, but it is the first time that the company - or any company - has repurposed the grounds of a power plant. The data center is expected bring 75 - 100 high–paying jobs to the state.
Ritch is a shareholder in the firm’s Huntsville office and co-chairs the firm’s Privacy & Data Security and Government Contracting practice groups.
