Sirote's Attorney Jim Sturdivant announces representation of Calhoun County elementary school principal facing criminal charge

November 6, 2015

Sirote & Permutt Shareholder Attorney, Jim Sturdivant announces his representation of Mrs. Julie Hood, principal at Ohatchee Elementary School, in her defense against the charge that she assaulted a student at the school in the early part of October 2015. Sturdivant had this to say concerning the case:  “Mrs. Hood is a dedicated career professional educator who has devoted her entire career to helping students in Calhoun County.  Mrs. Hood has lived and worked in the Calhoun County area for almost 30 years, has a wonderful marriage which has produced three outstanding adult children, and has an exceptional personal and professional reputation.  Mrs. Hood steadfastly maintains that she is totally innocent of this charge and we intend to defend her vigorously.  Given that Alabama law, by specific statute, provides educators with authority to use reasonable and appropriate physical measures upon minor students in special circumstances when necessary to maintain discipline or promote the welfare of a minor student, the decision by law enforcement to pursue this charge in a criminal context is particularly disturbing.”
