Sirote & Permutt's Neal and Ragsdale Receive Alabama State Bar President's Award
Sirote & Permutt shareholders George M. “Jack” Neal, Jr. and Barry A. Ragsdale were recipients of the Alabama State Bar (ASB) President’s Award. The attorneys were recognized at the 2014 ASB Annual Meeting on July 12, 2014.
ASB’s current president Anthony Joseph selected Neal and Ragsdale for the award, which recognizes the two attorneys as bar members who “best exemplify the ASB motto, ‘Lawyers Render Service.’”
Neal regularly serves in the capacity of mediator and arbitrator in civil cases. He is also certified as an appellate mediator and also serves on the panels of neutrals for Mediation and Arbitration for the American Arbitration Association, the Alabama Center for Dispute Resolution and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. Neal also has a general commercial and civil litigation practice in both state and federal courts. He served as the President of the Birmingham Bar Association in 2009 and as a Bar Commissioner of the Alabama State Bar for the Tenth Judicial Circuit from 2001 to 2010. Neal was also the recipient of Birmingham Chapter of The American Association of Legal Professional’s Lawyer of the Year Award in 2011. Neal is a Fellow and member of the Atticus Finch Society of the Alabama Bar Foundation, a Fellow of the American Bar Association and a Charter Member of the Fellows of the Birmingham Bar Foundation. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America for Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution and is listed in Alabama Super Lawyers for Litigation.
Ragsdale is a litigator and member of Sirote’s Appellate Practice Group. He represents defendants and plaintiffs in anti-trust, securities, class actions and business fraud cases. He also handles matters involving shareholder and intra-corporate disputes, and other complex litigation. Ragsdale is a member of the Alabama State Bar’s Board of Bar Commissioners and Board of Bar Examiners. He is a member of the Alabama Supreme Court Advisory Committee on the Alabama Rules of Appellate Procedure and is a former president of the Birmingham Chapter of the American Inns of Court, and past chairman of the Business Torts and Antitrust Section of the Alabama State Bar. He is currently serving as Plaintiffs Liaison Counsel in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Antitrust Litigation MDL. Ragsdale has also been recognized as a Top Appellate Attorney by Birmingham Magazine and is listed in Best Lawyers and Alabama Super Lawyers for Business Litigation.
